KGBA’s purpose is to

  •  Organize and fund grade school girls basketball programs (for public and parochial students)
  • Assist in the funding and success of the Kaukauna High School Girls Basketball program.

Why do we do it?

The physical, emotional and developmental benefits of athletic endeavors (in this case basketball) of the young girls in our community are well established and well known and include: healthy lifestyles, teamwork, sportsmanship, new friendships, etc.

In sporting endeavors there also is the goal and joy of winning. The goal to win drives positive behaviors in our young girls: goal setting, hard work and dedication and the desire to become the best you can be. When you give it your all, and give it your best, there is also a learned grace and acceptance (and even joy perhaps) in losing.

Sporting events at high school levels are important not only to the athletes, but they are a large part of what binds us together as a community. Kaukauna, and communities in general, take great pride in the achievements and success of their high school teams.

Why are we necessary?

Times have changed: Only a generation ago, sports were organized and funded mainly by school district budgets. Today, district budgets are squeezed and without the support of community volunteers and booster clubs, high school sports programs would be underfunded and unable to provide the uniforms & equipment and facilities necessary to maintain a quality sports program.

Times have changed – competitive landscape: A generation ago sports like basketball and football first started at the middle or high school levels. Today, organized sports teams begin at much earlier stages and girls often dedicate themselves to a sport at a young age. The KGBA now starts basketball training in the 3rd grade.  Girls start earlier and earlier in practicing the skills and developing the talent that will lead to athletic success in high school sports. Kaukauna didn’t start this trend, but unless we keep up with the changes, our high school sports programs, along with our community pride, will falter.

Preventing Bias

We strive to make the try out system transparent and fair. Parent coaches are involved but the head high school varsity coach and the coaching committee of the KGBA  also participate in, oversee and monitor the evaluations, selection and assignment process.
